Distance in radial direction between the pitch circle and the addendum circle

Dedendum

Distance in radial direction between the pitch circle and the root circle

Pitch diameter

Diameter of the pitch circle, namely of the theoretical circumference in which the transmission takes place without sliding

Module

Ratio between the pitch diameter and the number of the teeth

Tooth crest

Section of the portion of the tooth between the pitch circle and the addendum circle

Tooth base

Section of the portion of the tooth between the pitch circle and the root circle

Straight teeth

Teeth parallel to the axis of rotation

Helical teeth

Teeth oblique to the axis of rotation therefore with a more gradual meshing

Bevel

A pair of cogwheels in which the crests of the teeth lie on the surface of an ideal cone in order to be in gear with a given angle between the axes of rotation

Internal diameter

In the external toothing, the diameter of the circumference passing by the feet of the teeth

External diameter

In the external toothing, the diameter of the circumference passing by the head of the teeth

Shift profile coefficient

Relationship between the deviation of the reference line of the generating toothing with respect to the primitive cutting and the module

Wildhaber

Method for determining the thickness of the tooth starting from the direct measurement of the gauge

Helix direction

Direction of helix rotation, it is defined "right" if it rotates clockwise moving away from the observation point, it is defined "left" if it rotates anticlockwise

Axial module

Median module for the determination of the pitch diameter

Base diameter

Diameter of the reference circumference for the construction of the involute profile of the tooth flanks

Reclamation

Set of heat treatments that are performed to particular types of steels and which consists of a hardening.

Grinding

Surface finishing process aimed to restore the tooth to an optimal profile condition, that is to say involute.

It is a treatment on steel components which provides a surface enrichment of carbon which ensures an high hardness index
